The spasticity clinic provides comprehensive assessment and long-term management for individuals with either upper limb or lower limb spasticity as a result of a neurological condition.

Adults and adolescents with the following neurological conditions are suitable for management in the spasticity clinic:

  • Multiple sclerosis
  • Neuropathies
  • Spinal cord injury
  • Stroke
  • Traumatic brain injury

Treatment includes physiotherapy and occupational therapy, as well as the use of oral medications for generalised spasticity or botulinum toxin where appropriate, for individuals with focal spasticity. For those who have required botulinum toxin, concomitant therapy and home exercises are required to maximise effect.
