Epworth's cancer rehabilitation programs provide support to address the areas of life that can be impacted by a cancer diagnosis and treatment.
The programs aim to address all areas of your physical and emotional well-being including fatigue, pain, loss of movement, strength, fitness, body image, self-esteem, work or family challenges, relationships and late onset of side-effects. You can participate in rehabilitation before surgery or treatment, during treatment or after surgery or treatment.
What programs are available?
- Enhance breast cancer program; for people who have been diagnosed with breast cancer
- General cancer program; for all other cancer diagnoses.
What's involved in a typical program?
A multidisciplinary clinical team delivers the program.
Over the eight weeks participants will be supported by:
- a specialist rehabilitation physician
- oncology nurse
- exercise physiologist
- social worker
- occupational therapist
After we receive your referral, you will be assessed by our team to help understand your medical, physical and emotional needs. The team will work with you to develop specific goals for the program. Depending on individual needs, you will either join a group program for two hours a week for eight weeks or undergo the program in a one-on-one setting. Every week you will participate in an exercise program to help restore movement, strength and fitness. You will also attend a series of education workshops providing information and tools to address any concerns associated with your cancer diagnosis and treatment. If required, the team can also assist with linking you into local services and support at the end of the program.
