Mr Rod Woods commenced specialist colorectal practice in 1988 after a Colorectal Fellowship at St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne in 1985 and then a further Colorectal Fellowship in 1986 and 1987 at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland, Ohio.
In 1988 he held a Junior staff position at the Cleveland Clinic Foundation, Cleveland.
He attended medical school at the University of Melbourne and his clinical years were at the St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne, Clinical School. Residency and advanced surgical training was completed at St Vincents Hospital, Melbourne.
His laparoscopic interest started in the early 1990s when, working together with Gynaecologists Professor Carl Wood and Professor Peter Maher, they developed the first laparoscopic techniques in the management of advanced pelvic endometriosis.
This often involved rectal surgery combined with advanced gynaecological surgery. This work continues to this day.
