Mental Health – Transition to Specialty Practice

Completion of a transition to specialty program provides a priority pathway to undertake postgraduate study and the opportunity to apply for a targeted Epworth scholarship. 

Brookes Academy - Epworth HealthCare

This introductory program is for new or existing registered or enrolled nurses who have minimal experience caring for patients in mental health settings. This program will help you develop knowledge, confidence and skills in clinical mental health nursing practice.

Entry requirements

  • Current registered or enrolled nurse with AHPRA.
  • Currently working in rehabilitation and mental health unit at Epworth.
  • Permanent contract, minimum 0.6 to full time.
  • Completed a graduate year by the commencement of program.
  • Have received pre-approval from your Nurse Unit Manager.
  • Submitted an expression of interest (EOI) form.

Duration

  • One intake each year from March through to August
  • Six-month program.

Applications

Expressions of Interest (EOI) will be advertised in October.

Recognition of prior learning

Successful program completion is recognised as two credit points towards the postgraduate diploma in Mental Health Nursing at RMIT University for registered nurses.

Structure

  • Six study days.
  • 16 modules of mental health professional online development.
  • Discussion forums and reflection exercises (two hours per week via eLearning).
  • Case presentation.
  • Three reflective supervision sessions (40 mins each).
