The Brookes Academy, Nursing and Midwifery at Epworth, is a place dedicated to advancing nursing and midwifery, by providing every nurse and midwife with the opportunity to develop their professional capability in a flexible, supported way.

The Brookes Academy is 100% funded by the generosity of our community who want to support Epworth nurses and midwives throughout their career.

Targeted scholarship opportunities are now available to Epworth nurses and midwives in Critical Care, Perioperative and Midwifery specialties. You will not only receive financial support to undertake further study, you will also be supported, guided and coached throughout the program by dedicated Clinical Educators and senior clinicians.

Critical Care

Post-graduate programs for registered nurses aim to extend their professional career by enhancing skills and knowledge across intensive care, emergency, or cardiac nursing.

Current opportunities available:

  • Deakin University - Graduate Certificate of Intensive Care Nursing

    As a registered nurse, the Graduate Certificate of Intensive Care Nursing will equip you with the knowledge and skills required to comprehensively care for critically ill patients in intensive care and high dependency units at an advanced practice level.

  • Deakin University - Graduate Certificate of Cardiac Nursing

    As a registered nurse, the Graduate Certificate of Cardiac Nursing will equip you with the analytical, practical, communication and leadership skills needed to be a high-performing member of a multidisciplinary health team across a range of specialist cardiac settings.

  • Deakin University - Graduate Certificate of Emergency Nursing

    Nurses working in emergency departments are often presented with the most varied, complex, and often critically ill patients. As a registered nurse, the Graduate Certificate of Emergency Nursing will build on your existing knowledge and skills, preparing you to practise effectively at an advanced practice level in emergency care settings

Perioperative

These post-graduate programs are offered to registered nurses who aim to extend their professional career by enhancing skills and knowledge in a chosen pathway including Perioperative, Intraoperative or Perianaesthesia Nursing.

  • Deakin University - Graduate Certificate of Perioperative 

    Every year, 2.8 million hospitalisations in Australia result in surgical interventions. Integral to these interventions are the perioperative nurses providing care and support in pre-operative, intraoperative and post-operative environments. Deakin’s Graduate Certificate of Perioperative Nursing will equip you with the advanced assessment, practical and communication skills needed to step up to the challenges of perioperative nursing.

  • Graduate Certificate of Intraoperative Nursing 

    With a skills shortage in the intraoperative specialty area, Deakin’s Graduate Certificate of Intraoperative Nursing will equip you to join this growth area and help meet the growing demand for intraoperative nurses.

  • Graduate Certificate of Perianaesthesia Nursing 

    Perianaesthesia nurses provide care and support before, during and after the administration of anaesthesia. The Graduate Certificate of Perianaesthesia Nursing will equip you with the assessment, practical and communication skills needed to be a high-performing member of a multidisciplinary perioperative team.

Midwifery

This opportunity is open to registered nurses who are passionate about delivering an exceptional patient experience and high-quality Midwifery care.

  • Graduate Diploma in Midwifery 

    The Graduate Diploma in Midwifery will extend your professional skills and knowledge within this specialised field. The flexible 12-month course focuses on contemporary issues in Australian midwifery practice by combining lectures, workshops, labs and simulations along with your hands-on clinical work at Epworth. The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 8 - Graduate Diploma.

How to accept your targeted scholarship

To access one of these Targeted Scholarships, you must have confirmation from your sites Education Manager.

You will need to complete the Epworth Medical Foundation submission to confirm your place. A link to the target scholarship submission form will be sent to you.

The Grants & Scholarships Manager at Epworth Medical Foundation will notify selected candidates.
