About
Professor Alex Boussioutas is a clinician researcher in the field of gastrointestinal oncology. He is the Deputy Director of Gastroenterology at The Royal Melbourne Hospital and Head of Gastroenterology at Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre. He is a tenured academic with The University of Melbourne as Professor in Medicine and is currently the Associate Dean for Graduate Research in the Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences. He is also honorary Professor at The University of Sydney.
Conducting research in the Upper Gastrointestinal Translational Laboratory, Professor Boussioutas investigates the cell biology and genomics of gastric cancer and its premalignant condition to aid translation of genomic findings into therapeutics and biomarkers of early detection. He has active research programs into Barrett's Oesophagus and oesophageal adenocarcinoma as well as hereditary GI cancers through his role as Head of the GI Risk Management Service which is part of the Familial Cancer Clinic.
